I'm a huge fan of both of these shows, and of course, last night they had to overlap! First Idol was on and I was disappointed that they had the Idols singing a second round of Beetles songs. I would have rather seen some variety in the show.
I have to say that last nights Idol show was hit or miss for me. I thought there where a few good performances but overall not as good as last weeks. Brooke is still my favorite contestant, she just has this purity about her that I find refreshing, even though last nights show was not her best. The rest I thought where either ok or not so great. I didn't get to see everyone because my family switched to Dancing with the Stars.
I think I'll go into a bit more detail about dancing with the stars. First off, I feel sorry for the American Pie girl (Shannon Elizabeth); I don't think she has a chance of winning or even going very far. Her dance was pretty typical, but not terrible. It was OK.
Then Monica Seles performed. She is the tennis pro who has won 9 Grand Slam tournaments. Monica was probably the most disappointing of all the performances that night. I would have thought someone with a competitive nature would have attacked the dances more. She wasn't that great, or even very good. I predict either her or Shannon to be sent home first.
Now it's Marissa's turn. Marissa Jaret Winokur won a Tony award for her role in Hairspray. Her video was just too funny. Marissa is like a little ball of spunk and energy, So much so, that her dance partner, Tony, had to tell her to tone it down! I think this was probably the first time I heard an instructor tell a celebrity to tone down their performance. Their dance was pretty fun to watch, but it seemed more like a club dance then a cha cha. I have a feeling she is going to be staying around the show for awhile and might possibly benefit the most from the typical weight loss that contestants receive.
Priscilla Presley was a huge surprise! I don't think I need to go into who she is, everyone should just know that she was married to Elvis. Her dance was beautiful and elegant; she glided across the floor wonderfully. The main problem I cannot get past is her face. It does NOT move. She tries to smile, but her cheeks and forehead do not move! She has no expressions at all; I don't know why she did that to her face. It looks paralyzed. It also seems to effect her ability to laugh or even talk. It's awful to look at. I'd rather see someone her age have a few wrinkles and be able to smile and laugh and have facial expressions. Still, her dance was beautiful, the best dance so far!
I said so far because then Kristi Yamaguchi came and performed. She was the one I have been wanting to see all night! I absolutely love Kristi Yamaguchi. I remember watching her as a child win those gold medals wishing that could be me, like every other little girl at the time. I expected her to be good and she was amazing! Obviously, her lines and posture where perfect and her foot work was right on as well. She did such an amazing job for the first night out and her score reflected that as well, the highest of both nights: 27/30.
Marlee Matlin is the deaf actress who won an Oscar. Her video was hysterical; she has a great sense of humor which will make people want to keep her around. For being profoundly deaf, she has really good rhythm. Her performance was really good, not as good as Kristi's, but she was in my top 3 for the night.
I think last nights episode showed that this season's women are overall better then the men. It will be fun to watch their progress.

haha nice dissection of the contestants.
You've watched these shows so long, I'de say Simon can take the day off and let you judge for him!
